04.01.2020
Here is our story from the beginning of our introduction to COVID-19:
COVID 19 is making its way across the world and our town is no exception. It is no secret that many are suffering financially from the toll the pandemic is taking on our daily lives. This leaves many in the community struggling to provide meals with the limited resources available to them. Likewise, due to the quarantine measures, many businesses closed their doors.

Similarly, restaurants as well, struggle to continue serving as curbside pick-up, others had to close their doors too. Luckily, many of the restaurants still have resources that they can provide to help keep people fed. Working together, we strive to support our fellow restaurant owners as well as those in our community by creating meals for those who need them!

Together, Cristaudo’s and New Kahala have created this ‘Southern Illinois Collaborative Kitchen’ fundraiser. We are working together to use our resources to fill the existing gaps in feeding people who need meals and for those who would like to support feeding others. We have contact with other restaurant owners who we will work with to rotate the weekly menu. We will create different ‘pre-prepped‘ meals and provide them to local organizations for distribution. We will also have the meals available through pick up and delivery for customers, adapting to the needs of the community as we go along.

To start, our goal is to provide 100 - 400 meals weekly as needs dictate through the month of April which we estimate will cost $8,000 - $10,000. Any amount over will be used to continue to provide for those in need of meals. We will assess possible needs for the following months and adjust accordingly.

We are asking for donations to support the Southern Illinois Collaborative Kitchen to feed those who need meals. We will be offering the same meals to customers locally that may purchase the meals from us online with the proceeds going to Southern Illinois Collaborative Kitchen. The online ordering will be available by Wednesday through Thursday until 8p.m. prior to pick-up on Saturdays:

We are asking for a suggested donation of $7.00 or more per meal. With every meal purchase you will be providing a meal for another!!
You may also donate directly to our GoFundMe page to support feeding our community.
