Roosevelt Garden - EducationOutside

Roosevelt School (Redwood City, CA) has found an amazing opportunity to have a full-time onsite educator to help run the garden and teach outdoor science lessons in the garden space through a substantially subsidized program.

We are already fortunate to have an expansive and beautiful outdoor garden space. Over the past several years, we've enriched this resource further: benches and tables have been added; a shed has been organized and supplied; maintainence provided by dedicated volunteers; and additional support sourced through events like Beautiful Day thanks to the PCC, school parents, and Rebuilding Together.
With our expansion to TK and middle school, successful PBL program, and the designation of a California Gold Ribbon School Award , it is an opportune time to add standards-based, grade level science curriculum for our children.

By adding a full-time, paid trained AmeriCorps volunteer from the nonprofit Education Outside , Roosevelt students will be able to have a high-quality outdoor education program that is similar to school programs in Los Altos, Palo Alto, and Woodside, right here in Redwood City. Kids will learn about sustainability, gardening, composting, nutrition, and environmental education that can also enhance their experiences at Outdoor Education and the Yosemite trip.

Education Outside has learned by experience, schools need trained, on-the-ground staff to unlock the educational power of their green schoolyards and to spearhead important school greening efforts—an impossibility for many schools with limited financial resources. Their program is designed to overcome this inequity and make high-quality outdoor education available to every public elementary school.
