Team 2411 The Rebel Alliance is a small but successful First Robotics team that has been punching above its weight for 9 years now.
Competitive robotics is expensive, but highly educational, empowering, and trains our students in multiple aspects of the trades and technical fields.
We are blessed with many resources: a fantastic shop, tons of support from our staff and administration, amazing volunteer mentors, many gracious and helpful competitors, and a great umbrella organization: FIRST Robotics.
What we don't have a lot of is money.
Our students can't afford to pay to participate like many teams, being a majority free and reduced lunch school means our "Booster Club" pretty much doesn't exist. Parts, travel costs, and registration fees add up to around $20,000 dollars for an average year. Most of that funding comes in the form of large corporate grants, and boy are we applying for all of them this year! However, the conclusion of a major grant source last year has us staring down a major shortfall, especially if we don't get every single grant we apply for.
Our team is really fired up after a lot of changes and successes last year (new coaches, winning a regional off-season competition, and a rollercoaster ride of a FRC season). Our veteran members are facing the funding challenge head on, reaching out to local businesses, networking for corporate sponsor leads, recruiting new members and generally digging into the task of securing the future for this team.
