Help Me Keep Our House

I graduated in May of 2016 after putting myself through school to get a Bachelors and a Masters Degree with no help from anyone, just relying on student loans. While I was in school, I was also working, full time for all but the last year and a half where I was either unemployed or working part time. Before I completed my Master's, I gave birth to my son William, who is the love of my life.

Having graduated, I didn't think it would be long before I got a full time job offer, and I could start working on paying down my student loans, and the othe bills that I had accrued over the years. Well, I was wrong.

I was offered a temp job with a state agency in July of 2017, which allowed me to get caught up temporarily on some bills, but since the position is temporary with the state, there is a limit to how many hours I can work. Long story short, I was able to work a full 40 hours for the first five months, had to take a month off and now am limited to 19.5 hours a week.

I was barely making enough to keep up on my mortgage payments, and pay my utilities, until some of my outstanding debts began to catch up with me. My wages are being garnished, and my last $100 dollars that was supposed to buy me gas and groceries was garnised out of my account.

Given the fact that I still haven't received permanent full time work, I have decided to go forward with the bankruptcy I have been trying to avoid for the last year. However, with the garnishments, I have fallen behind on my mortgage payments by a few months. Once the bankruptcy is filed, the bank can take my house, and the 7 years of equity I have built up will be gone. I have tried to access every resource availabe to me, including trying to throw myself on the mercy of my family to help me out, but to no avail.

People have told me that I should just get a second job, something I have certainly considered, but its not that easy. I am as single of a single mom as it gets. My son has no father to assist with paying for childcare or child support. Its all on me. I make little enough to barely qualify for food stamps (which isn't enough to last the whole month) and ICP. I don't have child care options for evenings and weekends. Any part time job out there would likely not hire me because of the restrictions on when I can work or my credit history, and would pay me (if I managed to get a job offer) just enough to make it so I no longer qualify for these benefits which I currently desperately need. I don't like relying on the government, but am grateful that there is a safety net for me in my time of need.

At this point I am desperate. I am only behind on my mortage by $1,600, and if I am able to raise that amount, I can stop worrying about me and my son being homeless. Once the bankruptcy is filed, the garnishements will stop, and I will be able to make my mortgage payments again, and start to work on rebuilding my credit.

I never thought that it would come to this, but my son is too important and deserves to know where he will be sleeping each night.

Anything that can be donated will be a huge help to me and to my son. I will never be able to fully express my gratitude for your donation, if you are able to make one.

Even if you can only donate 5 or 10 dollars, for each person who makes a small donation, I am that much closer to keeping our home.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story.
