Volunteer trip to Kokrobite Centre

Donation protected
My school has worked closley with the Kokrobite Chiltern Centre for many years.  Last year I worked with my school collecting clothes and gathering lost property for them.  I met Jane  through school a few years ago.  We'd got chatting about the charity and I was very interested to know what happens to the clothes in Ghana.  I was looking to do some volenteer work over the next year, so when Jane suggested that I could volunteer and sugested I brought a friend we jumped at the chance.  I am a singer songwriter and enjoy teaching people to sing and play guitar. Now starting my A-Levels as a media student I thought it an idea to  document a week in the village with my friend.  They have a remarkable building project using plastic bottles, these buildings can last around 400 years! They are looking at misquito nets and how to make them sustainable.  So we will be put to work building, meeting the people and working with the children. Our trip is in October 1/2 term 18th October - 25th October 2017

We aim to raise £320 which will sponsor 2 children for a year of education.  All money raised will go directly to the charity for the education of the children.

KOKROBITE CHILTERN CENTRE ACCRA, GHANA
Kokrobite is a fishing community to the west of Accra. There is a lack of education here with the greater part of the community depending on fishing for their livelihood. This is not reliable and does not guarantee an income. Many of the children in Kokrobite do not attend school due to the cost of uniforms, shoes, books and daily food. An additional problem is caused by the parents not appreciating the value of an education having had no formal education themselves. Parents are reluctant to send their children to school if there is an opportunity for them to do something that will help to generate income for the family. When this is not the case the children spend the greater part of the day hanging around the streets or on the beach.
