My name is Virginia, I've spent the past two days following news and worrying (in London) about what impact Hurricane Irma would have on Antigua & Barbuda, where my family is from.
Irma wreaked havoc across the Leeward Islands in the Caribbean and according to local news sources, Barbuda of the twin island nation has suffered catastrophic damage. I visited Barbuda for the first time ten years ago, it's heartbreaking to hear of the devastation.
Much still needs to be established to provide a better understanding of what happened overnight. What is clear is that Barbudans need help as soon as possible and for a considerable time into the future.
Hurricane season isn't over but I hope that this fundraiser can go some way to help those in desperate need.
