Catie's MPI Nicaragua Internship

This past March, I was lucky enough to work in a small community outside of Managua, Nicaragua through an amazing NGO named Manna Project International. Some fellow Vanderbilt students, Ingram Scholars, and I helped build a library in Manna's community center to benefit their ESL classes. I was in Nicaragua for only a week, but within that week it was clear that Manna Project is one of the most amazing non-profits that I have ever worked alongside- they truly value relationships with their community and the community members genuinely appreciate the work that they do. Their programming includes ESL classes to help improve job stability, two medical clinics, educational programs in local public schools targeting health and English, and many more. MPI targets three areas to drastically improve livelihoods of those living in Nicaragua: health, education, and livelihoods.

I fell in love with kids like ~Gordo~ here (not my nickname for him, I promise) and was consistently shocked by how much we could accomplish and build relationships in the short week that I was there. I did not want to leave, and I am so excited to go back and keep building those relationships and working in a variety of Manna's programs.

I am returning to Nicaragua from May 13th to June 10th this summer for a month-long internship with Manna Project International. This financial goal is to cover the costs of the program that puts a roof over my head while I am there and feeds me!
