Going 4 Golden - Leah's Service Dog

Donation protected
Hello family, friends and supporters! This GoFundMe page is for Leah. Many of you know her as a bubbly, outgoing and talkative friend and confidant. She has been there for so many of us as a true friend, even in times of distress. Now is our chance to be there for her!

Leah has been diagnosed with a panic disorder. Her condition started taking root at the age of 13 when she started having a difficult time even going to stores (like Walmart) without having a full panic attack. Now, even though she is older, the condition is still something she struggles with. When she is having an attack it affects her ability to think clearly, formulate sentences and it also affects her fine motor skills, like finding a contact in her phone or her ability to text someone.

Over the years they have had her on different medications, visits to psychologists and specialists all over California. Although these avenues have helped tremendously, she is still in need of additional help. Which is why the doctors have recommended her getting a service dog. Service dogs can be an incredible support and help for someone with a chronic illness. This dog will help to alert Leah to when she is going to be having an attack, which can be up to 15 minutes in advance. This advanced notice will give her time to get in a safe place (not driving) and take any medication or direction recommended, to help prevent a full attack.

She has found a company in Woodlake, CA called Assistance Service Dog Educational Center. This center teaches their dogs over a span of two years using various trainers. They are taught 90 different commands, including how to alert their owners to oncoming attacks. This company will not allow Leah to pick a dog, instead they spend time with Leah and pick the right dog for her. We are confident that they will find the perfect dog for her!

We want you all to know what the money is for. The cost of the dog is $4500, with her deposit being $500 to secure a dog. We thank you so much for the love and generosity that you have all showed. It won’t be forgotten!
