Scouting For Music

Do you remember picking up your first musical instrument? Playing your first song? What about your first concert? Do you remember the nerve-racking, yet thrilling sensation of playing in front of your first crowd?  Although many of us can relate to these exciting memories, many more cannot relate, simply because they never had a chance to pick up an instrument. Why? Because of money issues. And many children today are missing their own opportunity at their big break.

Scouting For Music is an Eagle Scout service project designed to provide orchestral and band instruments to low-income middle school students in Charles County, Maryland, who would like to participate in their school's band and orchestra programs but cannot afford to rent/buy their own instruments.

This project can also inspire young middle school students to pursue further musical education in high school, college, or as a career. It also benefits the school by enabling more students to participate in band and orchestra classes, limiting the possibility of low student attendance in these music programs.

Money should never be a barrier between a child and his musical passions. I am a devout musician who enthralls in the art of performing and composition, starting from learning how to play drums and guitar to studying AP Music Theory and performing with my own band, JustMusicians. My life is continually blessed with numerous performance opportunities because I had the chance to start. Now it is time for me to give back. I care about our fine arts programs in my community, especially our music education programs. Help me on this journey to give these kids their big break!
