In 2016, 3.3 Million Minnesota families visited their local food shelf and we are seeing a significant increase in Minnesota food shelf visits over the past few years; between 2012 and 2016 senior food shelf visits increased by 49% and adult visits increased by 10%. (Hungersolutions.org)
In our service area of Chisholm, Buhl, Kinney, Balkan and Side Lake, The Chisholm Food Shelf distributes approx. 99,000 pounds of food annually and has served approximately 500 individuals and 191 households per month in 2017, a 49% increase from 2016.
The Chisholm Food Shelf needs approximately $4,000 per month to continue serving families in need. This money goes directly to purchase food for the hungry in our community.
