Menstruation with Dignity
School girls in the Kayunga district are missing school every month during menstruation. With most of the population in the area living on less than $1 a day there is no money for clean underwear or sanitary items.
Currently, 40% of the girls in the area only own one or no underwear at all. In addition to lack of underwear, most of the girls have no access to sanitary items. Therefore, most stay in the home during menstruation and do not attend school during this week, every month. Of the girls that do attempt to operate outside of the house for the week, 95% are using cloths, sponges, or leafs during their periods. Needless to say, these items are not sanitary and often leads to infections.
Missing a week every month from school has hindered performance and has forced many girls to drop out of school and many are entering early marriages with little or no education.
I am determined to help CINTA Uganda raise money to ensure that the 5655 girls located in the area have access to sanitary provisions and underwear.
Each kit with sanitary items and panties cost $4.3 (USD). Help us keep these girls in school, ensuring that they have equal access to a proper education and the means to stay in the school curriculum.
