The News is Full of Reports of Heroic Students and Teachers that Stood in the Face of Danger to Try and Protect Themselves and Others From an ACTIVE SHOOTER!
Many Schools have the Ability to "Lock Down & In General, There are Two Main Lock Down Situations:
(1) Lock Down with Warning:
The Threat is Outside the School Building.
(2) Lock Down with Intruder:
The Threat or Intruder is Inside the School Building.
This Term is Becoming Synonymous with the Ability to Lock Doors and Windows Through Out a Building to Keep a Threat Out.
NOT an ACTIVE SHOOTER!
(They Are Already In)
However, One of the Common Weak Links in a "Lock Down" Situation is: Classroom Window Glass.
The Following Procedures Should be Followed When the Threat or Intruder is Inside of the School Building:
√ Building Administrator Orders and Announces “Lock Down With Intruder.”
(This Announcement Should be Repeated Several Times.)
√ Immediately Direct All Students, Staff, and Visitors into the Nearest Classroom or Secured Space.
√ Classes that are Outside of the Building SHOULD NOT Enter the Building.
√ Move Outside Classes to the Primary Evacuation Site.
√ Lock Classroom Doors.
(IF They Actually Have Locks!)
√ DO NOT Lock Exterior Doors.
√ Move People Away from the Windows.
√ Keep All Students Sitting on the Floor, and Turn Off the Lights.
√ Take Attendance of Students in each Classroom. (Teachers Should Prepare a List of Missing and Extra Students in the Room.)
√ DO NOT Respond to Anyone at the Door Until “All Clear” is Announced.
√ Keep Out of Sight.

A. WINDOWS ARE NOT SECURE!
