Toni's Fight

On Thursday, July 5th, just 2 weeks after she graduated high school, My beautiful 17 year old niece Toni, suffered a brain aneurysm and is now fighting for her life. She was flown from Port Jervis to Westchester and is now in critical condition in ICU at Westchester medical receiving the best care possible. Her Mom Niki and Step Dad Doug, have not left her side for a second as our whole family struggles to make sense of this horrific situation. I can not even begin to explain the pain and emotions we are all feeling, it just doesn't seem real and we are all waiting to wake up from this terrible nightmare. They say the first 72 hours are the worst and we are only at about 30 right now. Toni is going to have a very long road ahead of her and will eventually require at least 2 more surgeries that we are aware of. No parent should have to go through this and Toni should be preparing for college and her future not lying in a hospital bed fighting to survive.
As Niki and Doug try to focus on Toni, they leave at home their 2 other children Rocky and Damien. Rocky is taking care of his little brother and all the family pets. Niki and Dog are staying at the hospital so will be eating all meals there, paying for parking and any other items they may need. They will both be taking a leave of absence from work to be there for their daughter. As you all know, expenses can add up quickly when we are faced with such an unexpected event. They will be dealing with medical bills from 2 different hospitals, life flight, deductibles, out of network fees, and the cost of normal house bills on top of it all. When you add it all up the cost to the family will likely exceed the price of the average home in the United States. Niki and Doug should be concerned about one thing only and that is Toni.
