Be a Champion for Sierra Leone

Many African Americans are starting to take the scary journey of rediscovery.  I started my own personal journey in 2013, with the birth of my third daughter.  While pregnant, I looked at my older two daughters I asked myself... What was our LEGACY?

I couldn't recite any warm and fuzzy stories or names of any relatives beyond my great-grandparents.  Creeping towards the age of 35, I  never wanted my children to wonder where we originated.  I gave them life, so it was my responsibility to connect any dots and fill in all the blanks, regardless of whom or what caused the gaps in our family lineage.

Therefore, I learned more about the African continent, teaching my children all I could.  Then early this year, after seeing Marvel Comics, Black Panther, I decided to invest in my journey by taking the African Ancestry DNA test.

After six weeks of worry and anticipation, my maternal DNA results revealed I was a 99.7% match withThe Mende People of Sierra Leone.

Now with a destination, I could focus my re-education and family journey to a specific country and people.  After more research and the help of several "on the ground warriors" in Sierra Leone.  My lineage was traced to the Eastern Region of Sierra Leone, Dama Chiefdom, specifically,  Senehun (Conila), Gofor, and Giema. The Mende People of these villages have welcomed my children and me with open arms!

They are proud people and have been able to live off meager conditions following Sierra Leone's devasting mudslides and the fatal Ebola epidemic.  Community children must walk miles to find a safe water supply, then undergo the grueling walk back to their respective villages with gallons of water atop their heads.  Many houses are dilapidated and unsafe.  Often times, the communities children and elderly fall ill due to lack of routine medical care and treatment.

Now while planning for my first visit, I would like to raise money for the Women, Children, and Elderly who are in dire need of access to clean water, sustainable housing, and routine and emergency medical supplies.

With ALL FUNDS DONATED, I will:

*With the cooperation of the  Water is Life Company and The WASH Sierra Leone Project, I will provide at least two clean water wells or pumps, stand-alone toilets and shower cubicles in each of the 3 above-mentioned villages.

*Establish a priority based housing initiative to include:  reconstruction and mending of roofs and the construction of safe housing units.

*Provide affordable lighting sources

*Provide monthly routine medical treatment and supplies

*Upgrade agricultural technologies

*Provide school supplies and uniforms for all school-aged children

*Provide clothing and other daily life necessities.

Any and all donations will be welcomed with immense gratitude! Thank you for taking the time to read my story.  Please Donate and Share!
