Save Pumpkin - Cat trapped in Fire

Tax deductible
Tragedy struck today in Waukegan. A family lost their home, all their belongings, their dog and they almost lost their cat, Pumpkin.
As their home went up in flames, the family got out by the skin of their teeth. The firefighters found their dog passed away in the home and were looking for the family’s cat. They found Pumpkin hiding in a room with the door closed and as they pulled her out gasping for air, but conscious, they immediately began treating her for smoke inhalation and started oxygen therapy on the terrified cat. In a situation like this immediate and aggressive therapy is integral to the possibility of her survival. Once Pumpkin was somewhat stabilized, our very own Waukegan Animal Control officer rushed her to the nearest vet, but due to the nature of her condition, they had to transport her to Premier Emergency Clinic where she was assessed and stabilized further.
The veterinarian suggested 3 to 5 days of intensive care and monitoring, and even with aggressive treatments, Pumpkin still only has about a 50% chance of making it. With smoke inhalation, the effects can have a very delayed onset. She could seem fine, but the effects of the heavy metals she may have inhaled with the smoke could become toxic in her blood, or the heat of the air she breathed in could cause burns or inflammation in her lungs and airways causing her to have more difficulty breathing. Only time and treatment will tell.
Unfortunately, after losing everything, the family wouldn’t be able to afford a fraction of the treatment, even at a discounted rate. They were given the decision to let Pumpkin go, or give her a chance by relinquishing her to Waukegan Animal Control with the understanding that they may not get her back. They selflessly decided to give her a chance, so here we are.
Wags is asking for $1000 to try to get her through the critical first 5 days. She will need to be hospitalized with oxygen, antibiotics, xrays, and fluid therapy just to name a few. If she makes it through, she will need to go to a medical foster to continue to monitor her recovery and possibly get the chance to love on her family once again.
