We need help with fundraising to pay the artists, helpers and purchase supplies. Our mural will be a collaborative effort from two fantastic non-profits: Father's New Mexico (fathersnewmexico.org) and New Mexico Breastfeeding Task Force (breastfeedingnm.org), All funds raised through Go Fund Me will be used for Mural Fest artists fees and supplies. You're invited to attend the dedication block party on Monday Oct. 8th, 2018.

The Greater Albuquerque Area Chapter of the New Mexico Breastfeeding Task Force (GAAC NMBTF) and Fathers New Mexico are collaborating to promote ways to encourage families to nurture and raise their children with the best possible foundation. Breastfeeding supports both optimal nutrition and bonding, which increases healthy relationships in the home.

Fathers are an important presence in families and in assisting the breastfeeding journey. When they have tools to support this healthy choice it will strengthen their engagement and that ensures that children are ready for school, feel supported, and develop strong social-emotional skills. We want to help educate fathers to understand the benefits of breastfeeding, as well as the importance of how to support their breastfeeding partners. Our partnership aims to help families to select breastfeeding when possible and navigate any challenges successfully.

By including the community in the conversation we can accomplish these big goals. When we publicly celebrate breastfeeding and involved fathers, we are bridging the gap to achieve the normalization of feeding babies at the breast and the supportive role of fathers. The Greater Albuquerque Area Chapter of the New Mexico Breastfeeding Task Force and Fathers New Mexico request your support and invite you to participate in our public event, (Albuquerque's groundbreaking MuralFest 2018) by including donations of items or service, or financial sponsorship. MuralFest offers a rich and wonderful opportunity to set the tone for this communities discussion of public breastfeeding, supportive fathers, and bonding families.

In exchange for your support, we will thank your business in our event advertising as a valued sponsor and anything else that is included in your level of sponsorship package chosen. Thank you for your donation and consideration!

We have four muralists painting for Father's New Mexico and New Mexico Breastfeeding Task Force. Betsy Canañas, from Philadelphia, will be the muralist at Crystal Dove, 525 Central Ave NE. Painting murals at Emerson Elementary School will be Aron Kalaii, Joerael Elliott and Lynnette Haozous.

Emerson Elementary School is celebrating our 66th year in the International District, which was formerly known as the war zone. Our school is the only one in the area where the student population is actually increasing, and not decreasing. Currently 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Our major community partner is the Boys and Girls Club, and we have an on site clinic sponsored by First Nations. We do Food Pantry once a month as well as provide GED, and English Language services for parents. We also provide a diabetes certification training in both English and Spanish through Presbyterian. We currently have 550 (including pre-schoolers) students at our school, 44% of which are English Language Learners. We have 13 countries reflected in our student population, such as Navajo Nations, Mexico, Nigeria, Ghana, Ethiopia, Phillippines and Syria, to name a few, and the number of languages far exceeds that. We are a Zone 1 school, which means we serve a very high risk population, in which a majority of our students our living below the federal poverty level.

We are a growing school with great teachers, but we currently having difficulty in retaining those teachers due to lack of supplies and community support. Due to the fact that are school is a community school, we are trying to respect what the meaning of community actually is starting by changing our school culture. We think this mural could be the biggest step towards changing people's mind, body and souls when they walk through the doors of Elementary.
