My name is Justin and I am a local Townsville based Lawyer. This year my brother and I have both decided to throw our hats in the ring (literally) and will be participating in the 2018 Fight for Your Cause Charity Fight Night on Saturday 20 October 2018.
By far the the most unique aspect of this particular fight when compared to others on the night will be the fact that my brother and I have decided to go toe to toe against each other in what is shaping up to be the most anticipated fight of century**!! (**Disclaimer: Most anticipated fight of the century amongst our friends**)
This year I have made the decision to throw my support behind the Townsville Suicide Prevention Network for 4 reasons:
1) - Suicide is recognised as one of the leading causes of death in Australia. Whether it be direct or indirect most ‘Townsvillians’ have either suffered from or have been affected by mental health and suicide.
2) - As a lawyer myself, statistics show that lawyers experience the highest incidence of depressive symptoms amongst all professions. Studies reveal the incidence of depression amongst lawyers currently sits at 33% when compared to other professions which currently sits at 20%.
3) - Studies reveal that transient suburbs within the Townsville region have a rate of suicide that is 3.1 times the national average.
4) - To reduce the stigma associated with talking about mental health and suicide after studies reveal that 52.8% of Queenslanders who died by suicide had no diagnosed mental health condition.
The Townsville Suicide Prevention Network aims to reduce the incidence of death by Suicide not only in Townsville but nationally. It aims to achieve this by playing a key role in the community by raising awareness, building partnerships and coordinating resources right here in Townsville.
It is my goal to assist the Townsville Suicide Prevention Network by raising $5,000 so that they can continue to do the great work they do in the Townsville Community.
