Blessings for Katie!!!
Katie (our sister-in -law) was in a severe head-on collision October 8th at approximately 5pm. She was life-flighted to UAB. They admitted her to ICU with a broken collar bone, broken pelvis, internal bleeding, crushed leg, and she was not expected to survive the first 72 hrs. Miraculously she did. She has had multiple surgeries (total of 10 so far) and a total of 80 units of blood so far. In the first 2 weeks they had to leave her abdomen open in order to be able to go in and continue to find where the bleeding was coming from. They placed a Velcro bandage on her abdomen to close it a little at a time until it could properly heal. She has been placed on a trach ventilator, a feeding tube, and dialysis. They did surgery to repair her leg, but she began to develop blood clots and has lost circulation to the lower part of that leg as well as part of her foot on the opposite side. We were told Monday 11/5/18 she would have to have one leg amputated a few inches below the knee and the other leg, she would lose toes, if not her whole foot. On 11/7/18 we were told her kidneys have failed and she will have to be added to the kidney donor list. Katie is a fighter, and mentally this is taking a huge toll. Her loving husband Gary has never left her side. Gary is a deputy for the Jefferson County Sheriff’s office and has been on leave to stay by her side. They have family taking care of their 4 children. This is going to be a long road for Katie, Gary, and the children. We are asking for prayers and any assistance you can give.
