Dear Friend,

Thank you in advance for taking the time to learn about Vagina Monologues East River (VDAYEOTR).  We are humbled to be returning to the Southeast DC community for the fifth consecutive year doing art activism + philanthropy work. More than 5,800 V-Day benefit events occurred locally and globally in 2017, educating millions of people about the ugly reality of violence against women and girls.  These productions are all ran by volunteer activists, VDAYEOTR is among thousands of productions around the world, channeling creative energy, art, and philanthropy, into making a global difference. This year’s global spotlight is on Women in Prisons and Jails, Detention Centers, and Formerly Incarcerated Women. As you may know, there is a direct correlation between violence and abuse done to women and girls and their risk of interacting with the criminal justice system.

What isThe Vagina Monologues exactly, you ask?
It’s a 90-minute collection of monologues written by the famous playwright Eve Ensler that documents the collective experience of women and girls—the good, bad and indifferent moments. The play will evoke an array of emotions and spark much-needed conversation about the treatment of women and girls. All proceeds generated during this campaign is being donated to the selected beneficiaries – DASH and Saving Promise of DC.

Why your support matters?
Your support means that you stand in solidarity with survivors; the 1 in 4 women who experience domestic violence in some form, i.e. physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional/verbal abuse, financial abuse, stalking or digital abuse. In the District, two-thirds of the women murdered by intimate partners were killed with a gun. With the 45% increase in homicide in the District this past year and more than three-fourths of the gun violence occurring East River and Ward 5, the Vagina Monologues-East River (VDAYEOTR) campaign aims to help by raising funds to support organizations that work in the domestic violence space 24/7 and spread love/awareness of this societal problem.

What are the ways to support?
Contributing, financially or in-kind would be a tremendous help. Your contribution will assist survivors and victims of domestic violence and support programming to educate young people (the demographic most at-risk) about intimate partner violence and healthy relationships.

Sincerely,
VDAYEOTR
