Linda D. Fire Relief

On February 4, 2019, a fire broke out in the home of Linda D., causing damage to her home and possessions, endangering her life and the lives of her beloved pets, and prematurely taking the lives of six of the cats in her care. Although it cannot replace a lot of what she has lost, this fundraiser is backed by many people and organizations that are inspired by Linda’s altruism and spirit that wish to support her during this time.
Linda is an avid cat lover who has dedicated a lot of her life to helping the helpless. We, the organizers of this fundraiser, know Linda personally through volunteering with her at a local animal shelter, where she is known for her humor, willpower, and above all else, compassion.
For many years now, Linda has opened her home to cats of all ages that have been diagnosed with Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV). FeLV is an infectious virus that can be transferred to other cats through contact with infected saliva and nasal secretions. Infection of the virus is fatal, as it can lead to an array of lethal diseases such as leukemias, lymphomas, and non-regenerative anemias. When cats that have been taken in by animal control officers, animal rescue organizations, and kind individuals are diagnosed with FeLV, the vet’s recommendation is usually euthanasia. Even cats that appear healthy and are asymptomatic are often euthanized.
Linda has saved many cats from this fate. She has provided a cozy, loving home to many cats that would have otherwise been immediately euthanized, allowing them to live out the rest of their days knowing that someone cares for and loves them. She has also lost many cats to this disease, and has provided comfort to them in their final moments. Without Linda, many of these cats would not have had this opportunity.
