Fundraising for the Boys & Girls Clubs

Introduction

Hey! My name is Reed Walton, and I am here to tell you what the Boys and Girls Clubs of Alaska has done in my life.

I am 11 years old, and for the last 4 years, I have played Football with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Alaska. They have taught me the value of teamwork, how to play football, how to treat others regardless of if they are better or worse than me, and I've made new friends along the way!  So when a school project came along for me to learn a new skill that can benefit myself and others, I immediately thought about learning to fundraise for an organization that means so much to me!

What Boys & Girls Clubs of Southcentral Alaska Does

The mission of BGCA is to promote the well-being of children in Licensed Childcare (ages 6 weeks - 12 years), Athletics (ages 4 - 18 years) and Clubhouses (ages 6 - 18 years).

Childcare 

Boys & Girls Clubs Licensed Childcare in Anchorage serves infants, toddlers, and school-age children from 6 weeks to age 12.  They provide childcare during work hours, after-school care, and summer care at their Child Development Center in Woodland Park. They even provide transportation and meals.

Athletics

This is my favorite part. As I mentioned, they offer football, but also have lots of other sports such as basketball, volleyball, soccer, flag football, futsal,  dodgeball, karate, and aikido. BGCA's goal in athletics is to provide a safe, positive athletics experience in a way that is affordable enough for kids to participate.

Clubhouses

The BGCA provides community clubhouses for kids who may not have anywhere else to hang out.  The goal of the clubhouse program is to provide recreational, athletic, enrichment, preventative, and mentoring programs focusing on academic success, good character and leadership, and healthy lifestyles for children living in communities across Alaska. I've been there myself, and they are really fun places to hang out.
