Diesel the Adventure Dog vs. Bone Cancer

Donation protected
How did we even get here…

A few weeks ago, Diesel was walking around with a mild limp and small bump on the front of his leg, the vet gave him pain medication and advised us to take it easy…saying that it was probably just a soft tissue injury. Over those weeks, we avoided going on walks (which was torture for Diesel) but the bump remained unchanged. We took him back to the vet for x-rays, not expecting the type of news we would receive the following night: “your dog has osteosarcoma.” We were speechless and heartbroken, caught in a whirlwind of emotions and questions.

Diesel is healthy and still fairly young; how can he have cancer? We followed up with bloodwork, chest x-rays and an abdominal ultrasound, all pieces to this complex and confusing puzzle. His chest x-rays and ultrasound are currently clearly, which means the cancer has not metastasized to his lungs or other organs. After meeting with an oncologist and surgeon at the Animal Medical Center of Seattle, we have come up with a plan that will give Diesel the greatest chance to fight and have the best quality of life.

On Thursday April 25th, Diesel will have his left front leg amputated; this will remove the primary tumor site and relieve him of the extremely painful eroding bone. Shortly after surgery, he will start on four rounds of chemotherapy to help his body ward off the remaining cancerous cells. If you’ve ever met Diesel, then you know just how much love and energy he shares with everyone he meets, and that same loving boy is fighting so hard right now, and we have to do everything we can to fight along with him. It hasn’t been an easy journey and there are still many tough days ahead, but he continues to breathe so much life and happiness into us each day. We simply can’t express with words how grateful we are for the continuous love and support we have received so far, it makes this process a bit more bearable.

Diesel isn’t done adventuring yet.
