Hello! We are the RazorBots, FRC Team 7883 from Augusta, Georgia.
The FIRST Robotics Competition is an international high school robotics competition that gives students real-world engineering experience. Each year, teams of high school students, mentors, and coaches work for an intense six-week period to build robots weighing up to 120 pounds. Teams are challenged to raise funds, create a team “brand”, hone teamwork skills, and build and program industrial-size robots.
This was our first season participating in the FIRST Robotics Competitions. As a rookie team, we have went far beyond expectations by making it to the FRC Peachtree State Championship. We won at our first event in Dalton and received the “District Event Winner Award” and “Rookie Inspiration Award”. At our second event in Columbus, we took 6th place overall and received the “Highest Rookie Seed Award”. While we didn’t make it to the FIRST Championship this year, we are adamant that this experience will carry us further next year. In order to make it further, we would need help and support from more people.
Costs to join and travel to these competitions have been frankly quite expensive, and as we go further these costs will only grow. Our season this year totalled up to about $15,000. We’ve estimated that next year if we make it to the FIRST Championship, these costs will rise to about $22,000. Any amount given no matter how small it may be helps us greatly!
Costs include:
- Annual registration (includes kit of parts and 2 district events) = $5,000-$6,000
- State Championship fee = $4,000
- FIRST Championship fee = $6,000
- Event travel expenses (includes transportation and hotels) = Approximately $5,000-$7,000
- Parts and tools = Approximately $1,000-$2,000
Any extra funds go towards promotional items for our team such as buttons, banners, and etc.
