Thank you for taking the time to open this page!

This GoFundMe was made to help support my son Trenelle Cannon who was brutally beaten and arrested by multiple officers from the San Diego Police Department on May 7th, 2019. The Chief of SDPD claimed that when the first initial officer approached the vehicle to arrest Trenelle, he was tackled to the ground by Trenelle, felt him gesture towards his gun holster and felt immediately threatened. That action caused the surrounding officers that were also at the seen to help in subduing Trenelle with “distractive punches” to his torso and back to apprehend him. The Chief also claimed that Trenelle was believed to be armed and dangerous although no weapons were found on him or in the vehicle he was arrested from.

The problem in the statement the chief released is that it does not match what is clearly shown from the cell phone footage taken that day. In the video taken by Trenelle’s girlfriend who was in the car when the traffic stop occurred you can clearly see the first officer aggressively approach the car, Trenelle open the car door and attempt to get out and get instantly pulled from the car by the officer. Because of the force and speed at which he was pulled from the car both the officer and Trenelle lose balance and fall onto the ground. After they tumble onto the ground the remaining officers at the scene immediately dog pile him and immediately start to punch him. My question to you is, how could Trenelle resist arrest when the video clearly shows the first officer forcibly removing him from the car and him being immediately pinned to the ground by multiple officers?

SDPD has done what many police departments have done in the past and has tried to cover their asses by painting Trenelle as a vicious criminal and justifying their brutal actions. No matter how the chief tries to spin this story, the video does not lie. Anyone who knows Trenelle knows he is far from a vicious criminal. While he may not be perfect, he absolutely did not deserve to be handled in the way that he was. We all have seen active shooters be taken in to custody much more gracefully & respectively than Trenelle was. SDPD’s actions were disgusting and something needs to change. No one’s son, brother or cousin should have to go through treatment like this by people who our tax dollars pay to protect and serve us. Police officers are taught many different ways to subdue a person, the actions they chose to use that day were completely unwarranted.

I have made this GoFundMe account with hopes that you will help my family pay our lawyer fees to help Trenelle fight this bogus case of resisting arrest, bring national attention to this matter and seek an independent investigation into this incident so Trenelle can have a fair trial.

I never thought I would find my son in this kind of situation but I cannot sit back and watch SDPD paint this incident as something it is not and also not be held accountable for their actions. The community I am from in San Diego, California is the only community within the city that is constantly harassed by the police and just so happens to be the biggest minority community in the city as well. Our community knows police harassment and brutality far too well and enough is enough. Please donate whatever you can, anything helps. My family and I intend to fight this case with everything we have and we know it will not be easy so all help is greatly appreciated to help us fight this fight and seek Justice for Trenelle and the safety of our future children.
