This fundraiser is for my friend living in Pakistan and is written from his perspective.
OVERVIEW:
The New York Academy of Sciences was established in 1817 and since then, it has brought together extraordinary people working at the frontiers of discovery. Among the oldest scientific organizations in the United States, it has become not only an enduring cultural institution in New York but also one of the most significant organizations in the global scientific community.
Throughout its history, the Academy's Membership has featured thinkers and innovators from all walks of life, including U.S. Presidents Jefferson and Monroe, Thomas Edison, Charles Darwin, Margaret Mead, and many more. Today, the Academy numbers over 20,000 Members in 100+ countries, with a President's Council that includes 36 Nobel Laureates, and a distinguished Board of Governors comprised of leaders from business, academia, and philanthropy.
The mission of the New York Academy Of Sciences is to drive innovative solutions to society's challenges by advancing scientific research, education, and policy.
ABOUT JUNIOR ACADEMY:
The Junior Academy is an initiative of the New York Academy of Sciences. It is an elite group of problem solvers made up of talented students, STEM experts, and companies around the world dedicated to designing innovative solutions to global challenges. Every year, the Junior Academy selects 500 young innovators out of 10000+ applicants who gain access to a remarkable global STEM network. These problem solvers are given challenges to solve the world's most pressing issues like genomics, wildfire, water purification, waste disposal, etc.
THE SUMMIT:
Each summer, Junior Academy participants gather at the New York Academy of Sciences in New York City for the annual Global STEM Alliance Summit. The Global STEM Alliance (GSA) Summit includes a variety of New York City cultural experiences, as well as opportunities to build useful connections with STEM mentors and professionals that last for a lifetime. The summit is a very prestigious opportunity because of the history of NYAS and the presence of innovators and thinkers of tomorrow.
MY RECENT ACHIEVEMENTS:
Being selected in the Junior Academy is a great privilege in itself. Other than that, here are a few of my achievements:
* HU TOPS Scholar (100% fee waiver) at Habib University with a CGPA of 3.83/4.00
* Selected as one of the 35 top students of the country in National STEM School.
* 5th position in the country in Google's coding competition 'Hashcode'.
* Selected in SPARK entrepreneurship Summer Program held in Egypt on 100% scholarship.
* Finalist in International Youth Math Challenge.
MY AIMS:
The Junior Academy brings together professionals and innovators from all over the world. Unfortunately, there have been very few students who have represented Pakistan till date. If I am able to raise funds, I would be one of the very few people who represent Pakistan in the summit. I plan to bring back my experience and share it with the Pakistani student community to raise awareness and utilize Pakistani talent in order to grow. I have always found in myself a natural tendency towards integrating science and technology in order to solve problems which is why this summit holds immense importance for me.
