Who is KidWind?
The KidWind Project, an international leader in renewable energy education, has been working with educators to integrate renewable energy into classrooms for over 15 years. The KidWind Challenge is a hands-on student wind turbine design competition that engages students in STEM through the lens of wind energy. Student teams design and construct small (4ft tall) wind turbines that they test in a wind tunnel, and meet with a panel of judges to present their design process and demonstrate their contextual knowledge of wind energy.

2019-20 KidWind Challenge
Interested in supporting our next generation of wind and solar pioneers?  Together we can support their education and help make our planet even greener with your help! From travel and prizes, to staffing and equipment, we need your support to make this year the best yet.

How far will your donation go?

- Every $50 we receive helps support a team with free wind and solar gear so they can participate.

- Every $200 we receive helps us support one coach and one team as they participate in local and regional challenges and events.

- Every $500 we receive helps us support a coach and one team to attend the National KidWind Challenge next June in Denver.

You can't learn to think out of the box from a desk; you can't learn to invent from a textbook. Join us in giving our youth the resources needed to learn, build, explore, experiment, and play! Thank you for your support in helping KidWind build a wind and solar playground for these bright and inspiring students.

I want to thank our sponsors, partners, and supporters for a remarkable 2018-19 season. It was our largest program to-date in terms of impact and participation.

This is what your support helped accomplish last year, and I may be underestimating by quite a bit!

- 35 Regional KidWind Challenges in 22 states
- 256 Local workshops, classroom visits, outreach events
- 1000+  Teams / 5000+ students directly involved in Regional and Online Challenges
- 80 Teams comprised of 300 students attending WINDPOWER 2019 in Houston, TX

Did we mention that over 50% of our participants were young women like this awesome team?!

Our plans are just as ambitious for our 2019–20 season! This year we hope to hold

- 40 State-level KidWind Challenges in 25 states
- 150+ Local workshops, classroom visits, outreach events
- Launch 10 Regional KidWind Challenges that focus on new Solar Structures challenge

All of these exciting regional events will culminate in our 6th annual National KidWind Challenge, to be held from June 1-4, at the AWEA WINDPOWER expo in Denver, CO.

REALLY DEEP DIVE VIDEO!

Yes, that is a shark turbine!  You think it looks silly?

...Maybe, but they laughed their way to 1st place.  Most power in the High School Category!

Check out this turbine - the drivetrain levitates on magnets!
