Jeremy's Fund

This is all still very new ... so finding the right words to explain what has happened is quite difficult and raw.

My husband was having dental pain so we decided to get it checked out on September 13th. It went very quickly from something simple (we expected a tooth extraction) to something far more serious. The dentist noticed something on the preliminary x-ray that concerned him so he sent us -- immediately -- to a maxillofacial surgeon who took one tooth out and a tissue biopsy. We waited for what seemed like an eternity (it was just 2 weeks) and on September 27th the surgeon confirmed our worst fear -- cancer.

Jeremy was referred to the local ENT hospital with an appointment yesterday -- October 9th -- where we learned that he has cancer in his lower left jaw and will need surgery to remove a large part of his jaw and the lymph nodes on that side. Before anything begins he is going to have two CT scans on October 14th to check if his cancer has spread as it was determined that he had probably had it for quite some time. We will then return on October 18th to the ENT hospital for the results of the scans and discuss exactly how we tackle this.

Since he was 14 years old, Jeremy has worked hard and taken care to make a difference in the lives of those he loves by providing what he can for them. He is the best person I know (and I'm not just saying that because I'm married to him). He is kind, gentle, funny and goofy and a light to those who meet him. He shoulders the stresses of life fairly well but this is a weight he is struggling with -- as am I -- because this diagnosis has come right in the middle of him being in-between jobs (meaning we're in-between health insurance coverage too and currently don't have it) so we are struggling to make ends meet and face paying for the medical care he will need. We are also facing the fact that he may lose the job he has accepted, but yet to start, if he has to have time off so soon.

We want to focus on fighting this cancer and not on trying to stay afloat and find ways to cover medical costs so we are looking for some financial help. We certainly don't expect to get the total we have included here even though we will really need it, as I'm not sure how this fundraiser will go, but if anyone can help us any money we do manage to raise will go towards our medical bills (I'll keep everyone updated on here as we go through treatments, etc). We are more than likely going to need a safety net (hence this page) and I just want to be prepared so that I can shoulder the stresses of all this so that Jeremy can focus on fighting the cancer.

Thank you.
