What is the DC Music Summit?

DCMS was founded in 2016 by three black women who love music, making music, and who care about the music community in the Washington, DC area. They created DCMS to build stronger links between musical creativity and entrepreneurial opportunities in the nation’s capital.

Our goal is to elevate the careers of local, working musicians by fostering a positive and inclusive environment for community engagement and networking, skills and professional development, and creative organization and inspiration.

The third DCMS will be held on May 21-23rd, online!

Why is DCMS needed?

It’s rare that the ability to be creative and create can sustain full-time employment—and so many people hold this dream. Washington, DC is a rapidly developing region with immense musical talent— and we’re not known for independent musician career-launching or longevity. There’s a rich, unique musical culture here that must be uplifted and supported—the health and inclusive growth of this city depend on it.

Why We Need Your Help!

The truth is: DCMS is run by 100% volunteer staff. For our third summit, we’re working to step up the quality and breadth of offerings for attendees. We must offer state-of-the-art resources and relevant information so every attendee can leave feeling empowered to thrive as a creative entrepreneur.

What We’re Funding:

Artist Performances—A goal of DCMS has always been at minimum to pay our performers. We are looking to fairly compensate 4-5 acts to perform their music throughout the day of DCMS.

Subsidize Food Costs—We would like to give attendees and volunteers the opportunity to stay at the venue, or closeby, to get nourishment and food during the day. Funding would help us make lunch and continental breakfast and coffee affordable and available.

Keynote Speaker—Being a creative entrepreneur is no easy feat! We’d love to give honorarium compensation to our keynote speaker, including travel costs. The people we are recruiting for this esteemed role have worked hard to get where they are career and business-wise, and to pay them fairly for their work is again part of our larger mission.

Supplies-  Having access to takeaways, and tangible resources support the success of retaining information, gaining new connections, networking and follow up. We would like to provide Programs, Lanyards, pens, and paper!

Nonprofit Status—Our vision is to become a regular and dependable resource for the creative community. By becoming a nonprofit, we can continue to bring consistent and accessible programming for creative entrepreneurial empowerment.

Receiving funding by January 17th will help us to better serve our community!
