For expenses during treatment for Breast Cancer

My name is Ann Conway. I grew up in Altadore and went to Central Memorial High School. I attended the University of Calgary (Drama, Art and Computer Science). While I was there, I had a radio show on CJSW and wrote for Vox on the local music scene. I was also Involved with Loose Moose Theatre Company and Green Fools.

Many of you may remember me from nights out seeing those local bands at places like Ten Foot Henry, The Westward, The Night Gallery, and others. Those were great times, weren't they?

In September, I was diagnosed with breast cancer that had spread to the lymph nodes in one arm. It was determined that the best course of treatment would be to start with chemotherapy, followed by surgery and radiation treatment. The good news is that it's operable and they expect me to make a full recovery. I feel very confident about that part of things. However, my financial situation is far less encouraging.

I work in companion caregiving for the elderly and doing seasonal gardening. My caregiving contract ended the week before I started chemotherapy, which was unrelated but unfortunate timing.  Gardening won't be an option until spring, depending on my physical condition.

Side effects from the chemotherapy are starting to become more pronounced and the level of fatigue is becoming difficult to manage. I'm told that side effects tend to be cumulative and are likely to get worse, although I'm hoping for the best. 

As a contractor, I don't have any extended healthcare or sickness insurance, I don't qualify for EI, and while I've applied for CPP disability, I won't even know if I'm going to get it for 6 months. By that point, I will already have lost my little house to the bank.  It's really difficult to ask for financial assistance, but without your help, I will lose my home.
