Lenore's Rainbow Bridge

Unfortunately I am not able to have children, but I still have that desire to mother and have a family.  I heard about the Orange Dog program through the Edmonton SPCA where they were flying small dogs from high kill shelters in California.  On our way out to visit Jeremy's parents for a camping trip, we stopped in to the SPCA to just "take a look".

One of the first dogs we visited was Lenore (they had named her "Snookie").  She had such a sweet and loving disposition even though she was probably anxious and surrounded by chaos.  She climbed up into Jeremy's lap, covered him in kisses and snuggled right in.  We visited for a while and went on to look at other dogs.  The others were all miserable and would not approach.  We went back to visit Lenore.  I stepped back to watch her and Jeremy... She had chosen him.  

She had been returned to the SPCA once already.  She had a broken rib that never healed properly.  She was covered in flea bites.  She was skinny and had obviously had a litter of pups recently.  She was fearful of other dogs.  She was a hot mess, but she was OUR hot mess. 

We have loved her and spoiled her for her entire life trying to make up for the couple of years where things obviously weren't so good.

She was part of a canine family; Maya, Muffin and Mort.  She was the last, she outlived them all.  

After many visits to the emergency veterinarian, hospitalizations, medications, and special diets, we have lost both our dogs in the last two months. We have borrowed over $4000 to cover the vet bills. Christmas is coming, and we are broke. Will you open your heart — and your wallet — to help?

More info: Mort had been blind for several years and experienced multiple health issues, including congestive heart failure. Lenore had her own health issues and was heartbroken to lose her buddy. Kidney failure finally forced the hard decision to let her go.

Mom and Dad are devastated, and broke, after doing everything humanly possible to save our fur babies. We don’t have children, so our home is now empty and silent.

</3 No doggie gifts under the tree this year.
</3 No furry cuddles on the couch.
</3 No wagging tales of greeting at the front door.

If a miracle happens and we go over the target amount, the excess will be donated in memory of Lenore to CaliCan Small Dog Rescue that took over where the Orange Dog (California Cuties) rescue left off.  

We loved our babies more than words can express.  The grief is overwhelming.  Thank you for reading, it means the world to us.
