For years, we have empowered young people to learn about their true history, link with today's problems and work with decision-makers so that they can participate in their own rescue. When violence breaks out, the aftermath can not be ignored, but Peace4Life has stories of peer-led suicide prevention, homicide prevention, social media advocacy, literacy programs, and so much more.
As many teachers across the nation face overwhelming scrutiny, we have witnessed teachers crying tears of joy because they were moved by our inspirational initiatives. We mix up a healthy dose of the arts, technology, academics, and social responsibility to deliver a unique transformational experience for our participants.
Our organization hopes to continue solving community problems but we need reinforcements. Alongside community advocates, we have accomplished much and stood at the forefront against school shutdown threats, but our public schools are still in debt.

An awesome musical group formed at Benton Harbor High School created this amazing song at the height of our troubles. I am featured in the music video highlighting that very Fresh Start petition as a call to action. We received more signatures on the petition than we have people residing in this city. Our work inspired people from all over the state and nation to stand up for public education. There is a tremendous need for this work. The video brought me to tears and serves as my daily motivation.
Sharing the home state of the wealthiest anti-public school crusaders, we understand that they have a bigger budget and intimidating connections, but we have strong hearts and we believe that we will make a difference if we keep pushing through. We are doing the work. We show up fighting to keep our schools open, working to improve the inner city, and serving as a voice for the people. As you know, all of this grueling work both in the forefront and behind the scenes requires major funding. In order to mobilize and strengthen our program offerings, we will need to raise serious dollars on a regular basis to gain our independence and footing as community organizers and healing storytellers.

The Urgent Need for Sustainability
Gentrification efforts have handed us an aggressive timeline. As we watch the indigenous people of our community wade through the mounted daily stressors of job loss, violence, increased lead levels, school closures, property foreclosures, over-policing, and rent hikes, the rising need for us to address the trauma will be critical this year more than ever.
