Stiamo creando una mostra in supporto ad una cultura e ad un mondo unico: le donne Yao e il loro nüshu. Vogliamo acquistare e far arrivare in Italia i lavori delle eredi di questa cultura: teli matrimoniali, ventagli, diari, cinture ricamate e tutto quanto sia possibile per presentarvi la vita quotidiana e la forza di generazioni di donne eccezionali.
Per ringraziarvi del vostro aiuto, nel pannello a supporto della mostra metteremo i vostri nomi: senza di voi, infatti, non è possibile raggiungere questo traguardo.
Con questa campagna ci aiuterete a realizzare un progetto intenso e delicato, per noi un sogno, a cui ci siamo dedicati con tanta cura e studio: una mostra a Venezia in uno spazio dedicato alla creatività femminile e degli appuntamenti futuri per far conoscere le tradizioni della minoranza etnica Yao e la storia delle custodi del nüshu.
La mostra, in quella che speriamo sia solo una prima tappa in Italia, si terrà tra giugno e luglio: sapremo essere più precisi man mano che potremo realizzare i passi necessari per l’organizzazione e l’acquisto dei materiali necessari. Rimanete con noi!
Siamo Yuanfen, una piccola associazione culturale di ragazze e ragazzi italiani e cinesi, uniti dal desiderio di far conoscere le bellezze dell’Italia in Oriente e la cultura cinese in Italia.
Soprattutto in questo momento, vogliamo condividere gli aspetti più curiosi, inediti, dei due paesi, lontano da stereotipi e pregiudizi.
In questi anni abbiamo portato avanti le nostre iniziative sul nüshu, la "scrittura delle donne" auto finanziandoci; ora, con l'aiuto di tutti, realizzeremo una prima mostra con cui aiuteremo la comunità Yao, acquistando e commissionando altri manufatti originali alle artigiane, "adottando" le eredi, donne incaricate di custodire e tramandare la tradizione.
Un lavoro fondamentale, che richiede anni di studio e profonda dedizione, ma che, molto spesso, non viene loro adeguatamente retribuito.
Quella del nüshu è cultura straordinaria: una scrittura tutta al femminile inventata e tramandata dalle donne di questa etnia, che ancora vivono nella contea di Jiangyong. I caratteri e i canti in nüshu sono la massima espressione della bellezza di questa tradizione, ma anche testimonianza della sofferenza delle donne, della loro vita in una società storicamente maschilista e patriarcale, raccontata e tramandata per secoli, tra madre e figlia, sorelle, amiche.
Nel corso della loro esistenza le Yao hanno imparato a fare a meno di quella società che le ha ignorate per secoli, creando una forma comunicazione originale, un sistema educativo, una forma di sorellanza e di unione: tutto questo è il nüshu.
Una memoria che non deve andare perduta e nemmeno “svenduta”.
Vogliamo farvi conoscere la storia delle eredi di un patrimonio unico al mondo, donne forti e meravigliose, aiutandole concretamente per proseguire nelle loro attività.
Investiremo nel frutto del loro lavoro: tessuti, scritture ventagli, diari, con racconti e canti che parlano di generazioni di donne, madri, figlie, sorelle, i loro pensieri, le loro emozioni.
Vogliamo permettere a tutti di partecipare al lavoro di queste donne eccezionali, farvele incontrare, aiutarle a crescere, ad essere autonome, libere.
Crediamo fermamente che solo la condivisione della cultura possa costruire ponti anche tra comunità molto lontane, creare legami forti e duraturi da cui tutti possano beneficiare.

HELP TO PRESERVE THE EXTRAORDINARY WORK OF THE YAO WOMEN: THE NÜSHU
Dear friends, travelers, dreamers, curious people, lovers of Italy and China,
We are Yuanfen, a little cultural association of young men and women bound together by the desire to spread the knowledge about the marvels of Italy in China and the Chinese culture in Italy. In this time in particular, we’d like to share the most curious and undisclosed facts about the two countries, free of stereotypes and biases.
This campaign aims at promoting an intense yet delicate project we hold very much dear, to which we’ve been dedicating ourselves with the careful study: an exhibition in Venice and a series of meetings to introduce and divulge the traditions and the customs of the ethnic minority of the Yao women, the custodians of the nüshu writing.
It is a culture of extraordinary value, a fully female kind of writing, entirely invented and passed on by the Yao women, who still live in the Jiangyong County. The nüshu chars as well as the lyrics in nüshu are the ultimate expression of the beauty of this tradition, but also the full display of these women’s suffering, of their lives spent in a historically male chauvinist and patriarchal society, told and bequeathed for centuries, from mother to daughter, from sister to girlfriend.
During the course of their existence the Yao women have learnt to live without that very society which had ignored them for centuries, by creating an original language of their own, which is also an education system, as well as a mark of union and sisterhood: this is nüshu.
It is a memory which mustn’t get lost or sold cheaply. In fact the amazing nüshu chars are currently at concrete risk being used only for esthetic and trading purposes, with absolute disregard for their true origin and meaning and the astounding tradition they’ve been bringing on.
We’ve also got to know these strong awesome women and we would very much like to extend the knowledge of their extraordinary history to all of you because they are the true heir to a unique legacy. We therefore aim at helping them concretely in the pursue of their activities. We would like to invest in the fruit of their precious work, as to say fabrics, fan writings, diaries containing the songs and tales of generations of women, mothers, daughters and sisters, of their thoughts, emotions and dreams.
Over the past few years we’ve been self-financing our initiatives dedicated to the nüshu. Thanks to the sum we’ve been able to put together - 700 Euros -, we can now set up a first exhibition which’ll enable us to help the nüshu communities by buying and commissioning more original handcrafts and also by “adopting” the heirs, as to say the women in charge of passing on the tradition. The heir’s work is in fact crucial as it requires years of study and profound dedication, which are unfortunately very rarely recognized and properly remunerated.
It is our wish to extend the opportunity to take part in the work of these outstanding women to everyone. We’d like you to get to know them closely and let yourselves be enchanted by them while helping them grow so they can finally be independent and free.
We firmly believe culture sharing only can build bridges even between very far communities and thus create strong and long-lasting ties from which everyone can benefit.
