Afro-Canadians Health Campaign - 2020

Donation protected
We are requesting help to support the multiple campaigns organized by the Wellness and Prevention Centre for African Canadians of Alberta, also known as CBEP. Our objective is to raise up to $50,000.00. Any contribution, big or small, is greatly appreciated!

The objectives of these campaigns is to raise the awareness about the burden of chronic diseases, mental health and drug addiction among African and Caribbean Canadians living in Alberta, Canada and to deliver health promotion activities aimed at curbing the rise and onset of chronic diseases among this population, as well as promoting information about senior health and abuse.

CBEP is a nonprofit organization envisioning the prevention of chronic diseases and health promotion among African and Caribbean communities. CBEP focus is to be a reliable resource where people can access information, services and programs on their path to health and wellness and to live a healthier lifestyle. Our mission is to develop optimal and stable community health and wellness structure that more adequately meets the needs of African and Caribbean Canadians in Alberta.

In the case of diabetes, for example, it is estimated that 3.4 million people live with diabetes in Canada. This number will increase to 5 million Canadians in the next 10 years. The economic burden of diabetes in Alberta is estimated to be $1.1 billion in 2018. This cost is expected to increase by 40% over the next decade to 1.6 billion by 2022 (Info Canada). According to Diabetes Canadian statistics, African and Caribbean Canadians communities are at a higher risk developing this chronic metabolic disease. Thus, our mission will improve the consciousness, and living condition of this population in Alberta.

Our community resource connections of experts (physician, scientist, nurse, nutritionist…) meet with African and Caribbean Canadians living in Alberta in different health and wellness events organized particularly in Edmonton as well as other nearby towns. We also develop health and wellness promotion resources, and interact with our clients through our website (http://www.cbep.ca/) and our Facebook page.

If you prefer donate by cheque, you can make a cheque payable to the CBEP at 315B, 8627 Rue Marie-Anne Gaboury, Edmonton, Alberta T6C 3N1. Thank you for considering our request, and please feel free to contact us for more information.
