Official Dr. Thomas F. Freeman Legacy Fund

I have been trying to find the words to explain how devastating the loss of my father, Dr. Thomas F. Freeman, has been and throughout the pain of the loss there has been so much pouring out of love.  Our lives have been changed with kindness because we will never forget the generosity of others- it’s a life altering experience and in such a good way.  The family is unable to pour enough of our heart and souls into this message to even remotely begun to explain how very thankful we are for your blessings. Your funds are helping us to pay burial costs and related expenses.  The kind messages, words of encouragement and love show that each of you are the best and most kind hearted and beautiful people on earth.

You have changed the lives of the family of  Dr. Thomas F. Freeman, an esteemed debate coach, faculty member, orator and minister, who passed away suddenly during  the COVID-19 pandemic on Saturday, June 6, 2020 at 100 just three weeks shy of his 101st birthday.  A revered educator and the founder of the world-renowned Debate Team at Texas Southern University, he instructed and mentored such iconic national and global figures such as U. S. Representative Barbara Jordan and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  Academy Award winner Denzel Washington also sought his advice for the 2007 movie, The Great Debaters. 

The hole he left in our family will never be filled.   We know he touched hundreds of thousands of people, as he always focused on what he could do for others.   A man of God, he gave whatever he had to anyone who seemed to be in need.  He lived his life with an open heart, mind and hand; giving freely to others and asking nothing in return. 

In lieu of flowers, to honor his generosity towards others as well as his contribution to education, the Official Dr. Thomas F. Freeman Legacy Fund is established to cover funeral and burial expenses.  Funds are also needed to facilitate care for the family and to assist his wife of 67 years, Clarice who turned 100 years old in August 2020..  A portion of funds will be used to establish scholarships in his name for his descendants.  
 
It is the hope that all will rise to honor Dr. Freeman and donate in his memory.  All funds will be administered by Legacy Health Foundation, Inc., under the supervision of his daughter, Dr. Carlotta Freeman.   Please give what you can.
