Black Girls With Garden is dedicated to food justice and food freedom for black people all over the world. In the past 3 years, BGWG has worked endlessly to create an environment of support, education, representation, and inspiration for women of color interested in gardening. We are pleased with our results! Our mission has been to make gardening easy for you. Thankfully for social media, we have been able to touch over 150k souls!
We are looking to take the next steps to spreading garden knowledge and food accessibility across the world by installing community gardens. Why now? I saw one community garden in my town in a low income area whom would benefit highly from it and I have yet to see one black person work such garden or benefit from it. I'm heartbroken at how our area is being gentrified. I'm sure my neighborhood is not the only city, area, or town that is witnessing this. I have a plan:
1. Start our first community garden here in my hometown - BGWG Back To Our Roots Community Garden- host gardening classes for food and houseplants, empower my community to grow again
2. Take BGWG Back To Our Roots Community Garden on the road. Assist others with setting up community gardens in their cities and keep said gardens funded. My plan is to help install community gardens in facilities or locations that assist traumatized black people.
3. Provide free garden workshops & supplies to families to help start & maintain a home garden.
I know these are big dreams, but BGWG was the size of a mustard seed 2017 when I started our website. Now, we are over 200K strong and because of the BGWG community I am sure we can make this happen. I appreciate you. I see you. I love you. Thanks Fam.
