Florin HS Band Needs Your Help

Florin High School serves a diverse, socioeconomically disadvantaged community in south Sacramento, CA. The students come from very low income households (over 90% free-reduced lunch). Through various grants, and excellent school administrators Florin High School has been able to grow and develop an instrumental music program that serves the students, school, and community without any fees for the students involved.   6 years ago the Florin HS Band Program was 41 students in one band class. For the 2020/2021 school year the Band program will have over 200 students in 6 classes.  They may come from impoverished households but you would never know that to see them perform. They have such pride in their eyes as they play their music. The band spends over 400 hours OUTSIDE of class time each school year in order to perform at such a high level.   During these years of growth we have managed to build and maintain an inventory of instruments and uniforms that allow our students to have the same experiences that a band/orchestra student would at one of the affluent schools in the area. Unfortunately, due to the COVID19 epidemic we are not currently able to meet the needs of our students for next year.    As such we are left in even more dire need of your support.   With all of these difficulties, and keeping in mind the goal of equality where low income students are not deprived of experiences because their families do not have resources, we are starting this gofundme campaign to try and raise the money necessary to meet the needs of these amazing students.   Your donations will help purchase and repair instruments, purchase new uniforms, provide food and water for the students when we travel to games and competitions and help to cover the cost of general needs and supplies that without, the students would not be able to be in band.    Please consider making a donation to support the Florin High School Band and Orchestra.
