Pflanz‘ einen Baum | 100 km für 1000 neue Bäume

(for English version pls scroll down)

Was du jetzt tun kannst:

Vielen Dank.

Und jetzt: Pflanz' einen Baum!

Plant a tree | My ultra-marathon for the Koalas

Hello and „Moin“,

My name is Dirk Ryback, I am an HR manager and a passionate amateur runner living happily with my family in a small village called Dohren in Lower Saxony, Germany. I have always been an “outdoor guy” who got fascinated by agriculture and a respectful cohabitation with our nature at a young age.

I follow the current news from Australia on a daily basis: The images and videos of the devastating natural disaster showing the world that a wonderful continent is burning to pieces widely.

Calculations predict that more than 100,000 square kilometres of infrastructure, nature, wildlife and biosphere have been destroyed. To give you a comparison: This is around the size of the former German Democratic Republic.  This marks an inconceivable dimension of destruction. A recuperation, reforestation and reanimation of these areas will take several decades!

My campaign “Plant a tree | My ultra-marathon for the Koalas” shall play its tiny part to the reforestation and supports the Koala Hospital in Port Macquarie, New South Wales in Australia. There, a motivated and passionate team of employees and volunteers takes care unremittingly that Australia’s mascot, the Koala, gets rescued and treated with nutrition and medical supply.

Due to the fires the essential-to-the-Koalas eucalyptus trees have been destroyed. The remaining Koalas suffer twice from that: Their habitat is gone and they cannot find enough food to survive. Koalas rarely drink water. They cover their water needs almost exclusively through the water-rich leaves of the eucalyptus trees.

More than 500 types of eucalyptus trees exist, but Koalas only prefer a few. That is why an existing Koala population is difficult to resettle. By the way, the term “Koala” comes from the language of the Aboriginees and means literally “without water”.

Together with you, your family and your friends, I want to make it possible for the Koala Hospital to plant new eucalyptus trees to re-establish the natural environment for Koalas, wombats and cangaroos at least partially. A really wonderful achievement would be to plant at least 1,000 new eucalyptus trees. This would not only be a tiny forest, but also a new piece of paradise.

Here comes my personal contribution: If we achieve our common goal of 1,000 eucalyptus trees, I will run the 100 kilometres long ultra-marathon distance along the Kiel-Canal this summer. Company on that run is always welcome! ;-)

What you can do now:
Support this campaign and “Plant your Koala tree”. Share the campaign in your social networks, send emails and have a chat at the lunch table with your colleagues or at breakfast with your family. Inform your colleagues from the gym or your local sports club. Share the news in your favourite bar. Every contribution matters!

Thank you very much and kind regards,

Dirk

PS: For every 10 Euros a eucalyptus tree will be planted. 50 Euros make for a new tiny paradise for animals. Plant your tree – now!

EDIT: The gofundme team has contacted me and asked kindly to leave a note about the handling of your donations. The collected sum will be donated at the end of the campaign from me directly to the Koala Hospital Port Macquarie via PayPal. gofundme will pay the final sum (charges to be deducted) onto my bank account. The reason for payment will be the “Planting of new eucalyptus trees”. We have chosen this way to reduce further account charges and costs of transaction to keep the sum of the donation as high as possible. If you have further questions, just leave me a message, I am happy to answer them. Thank you.

And it still matters: Plant a tree now!
