SERVE Project to Zambia 2020

On the 2nd of July myself and a team of 7 others will be flying to Mazabuka to volunteer with SERVE for 4 weeks. SERVE is an Irish development and volunteering organisation committed to tackling poverty in the majority world.
The funds will be used for flights, insurance, training, in-country project costs and for the SERVE Next Step Weekend. SERVE also uses these funds to make grants towards furthering the work of their overseas partners.
Mazabuka is located in the Southern Province of Zambia, almost 200 kilometres southwest of Lusaka, the capital.
The greatest cause of death in Mazabuka is HIV/AIDS. The average life expectancy in Zambia is 42 years old which results in an increased number of orphans, who end up living on the streets. This often leads to alcoholism, drug addiction, which are becoming more common in Mazabuka, and prostitution which exacerbates the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
I will be placed with the Assumption Parish Youth Project. This project targets young people, delivering programmes in the areas of primary education, practical youthwork, and life-skills training. SERVE have been working in Zambia since 2009, supporting targeted infrastructure and capacity building initiatives.
I will be facilitating a programme of youthwork and youth leadership training, facilitating creative arts workshops for children and teenagers, with a focus on music, drama, and sport and supporting the on-going initiatives of the Assumption Parish Youth Project.
