Sandra's Last Journey

FR: Sandra Annick Njanda, Ingénieure en Electrotechnique aura bâti une carrière solide en tant que responsable du développement de produit et chef d'équipe dans une société d'ingénierie électronique en Allemagne. Cependant, il y a quelques années, elle a été diagnostiquée d'un cancer du sang.

Elle va non seulement initier une recherche publique de donneur de cellules souches afin de survivre, mais deviendra également une ardente défenseure de personnes confrontées au même défi. Elle lance l'initiative Fight4Sandra et s'associe à Astrid G. de Help Astrid et au DKMS Deutschland lors de plusieurs événements en Allemagne et en Autriche.

Il est de notoriété publique que les chances sont minimales pour les patients d'origine africaine de trouver un donneur correspondant. Elle sera également confrontée à la perception culturelle africaine par rapport au don du sang à autrui. Cependant, la détermination de Sandra créera quelque chose d'extraordinaire: elle créera une nouvelle prise de conscience du cancer du sang parmi les Africains en Allemagne et dans d'autres parties de l'Europe. Ses efforts seront fructueux: elle trouvera un donneur correspondant en deux mois et subira avec succès une transplantation de cellules souches.

Malheureusement, sur le chemin de la guérison, le cancer revient et elle rend l'âme le 19 janvier 2020. Sandra demeurera un exemple de détermination, de courage et d'amour. Nous pleurons une mère, une sœur, une fille, une basketteuse talentueuse, une passionnée de bricolage et surtout une amie fidèle.

EN: Dipl. Ing. Sandra Annick Njanda built a solid career as a Product Development Manager & Team Leader in an Electronic Engineering company in Bavaria, Germany. However, a couple of years ago, she was diagnosed with blood cancer.

This is how, she not only initiated a public search for a matching stem cell donor in order to survive the sickness, but also became a strong advocate for people enduring the same challenge. She started the Fight4Sandra initiative and partnered with Astrid G. of Help Astrid and the DKMS Deutschland at several events across Germany and Austria.

It is known that the odds are extremely daunting for blood cancer patients of African descent, for whom finding a matching donor is extremely difficult. She also faced the cultural problem of Africans generally fearing the idea of donating their blood to 'someone foreign'. However, Sandra's determination was very instrumental: she created a new blood cancer awareness amongst Africans in Germany and other parts of Europe. Her efforts were fruitful: she found a matching donor in the space of 2 months, and successfully underwent a transplantation.

Sadly on her journey towards healing and a new life, the cancer came back and she passed away on January 19th 2020, leaving us a strong legacy of determination, courage and love. We mourn a mother, sister, daughter, a talented basketball player, a curious DIY enthusiast and especially a loyal friend.

DE: Dipl. Ing. Sandra Annick Njanda baute eine solide Karriere als Produktentwicklungsmanagerin und Teamleiterin in einem Elektronikunternehmen in Bayern auf. Vor ein paar Jahren wurde bei ihr jedoch Blutkrebs diagnostiziert.

So initiierte sie nicht nur eine öffentliche Suche nach einem passenden Stammzellspender, um die Krankheit zu überleben, sondern wurde auch eine starke Fürsprecherin für Menschen, die die gleiche Herausforderung erlebten. Sie hat die Initiative Fight4Sandra ins Leben gerufen und sich mit Astrid G. von Help Astrid und der DKMS Deutschland bei verschiedenen Veranstaltungen in Deutschland und Österreich zusammengetan.

Es ist bekannt, dass die Chancen für Blutkrebspatienten afrikanischer Abstammung, für die es äußerst schwierig ist, einen passenden Spender zu finden, äußerst abschreckend sind. Sie sah sich auch mit dem kulturellen Problem der Afrikaner konfrontiert, die generell befürchteten, ihr Blut „jemandem anderen“ zu spenden. Sandras Entschlossenheit war jedoch sehr entscheidend: Sie schuf ein neues Bewusstsein für Blutkrebs bei Afrikanern in Deutschland und anderen Teilen Europas. Ihre Bemühungen waren fruchtbar: Sie fand innerhalb von zwei Monaten einen passenden Spender und die Transplantation war erfolgreich.

Traurigerweise kam der Krebs zurück und am 19. Januar 2020 starb Sandra. Sie war, ist und bleibt ein Modell der Entschlossenheit, des Muts und der Liebe. Wir trauern um eine Mutter, eine Schwester, eine Tochter, eine talentierte Basketballspielerin, eine neugierige Heimwerkerin und eine treue Freundin.
