Rooting Failure

Donation protected
The present is an academic Major Project that will finalise a year-long research journey that we, Paolo and Sara, both students from MA Narrative Environments at UAL: Central Saint Martins, have embarked on to complete the two-year postgraduate degree through which we are attempting to nurture our shared passion for Design, a discipline we are committing to dedicate our professional life to.

Rooting Failure is an experiential, interactive installation that, inspired by Jules Verne’s Journey to the Centre of the Earth, challenges the common understanding of 'failure' by inviting the audience to embrace a self-exploratory experience of recollection, discovery and revelation of personal 'un-successes' .

As a whole, it is aimed to addresses the following question:
How can failure, as an essential component of identity development, be de-stigmatised in a results-driven, anxiety-stricken society?

It is going to take place at The Crypt Gallery, London on 21-22-23 March 2020 and it is going to be especially devoted to students and young workers (thereabout 20 to 35 years of age) that, exactly like us, are striving to fulfill the objectives required by a market-led digitalised world.

As a matter of fact, after having 'succeeded' several deadlines, we are currently refining our concept and design proposal so as to get ready to begin the prototyping and production phase that, from late January to early March, would hopefully make us experience both achievements and failures that will enable us to generate a thorough outcome.

However, as it is often mentioned specially on these platforms, in order to actually realise what just presented we need an external support that, together with our savings, could contribute to finalise our project.
Many indeed are the expenses that we are going to face during the next upcoming weeks and, although we will strive for cutting any excess by fabricating everything at the college's workshops, by relying on our collaborators' generous free-work and by westing as less material as possible, we calculated that overall we would need more than what we were expecting to.

The budget breakdown will be:
20% - Venue Hire
30% - Materials
30% - Production
5% - Testing
5% -  Printing
5% - Advertisement
5% - Contingency

As for the incentives, they are:
over £50 - Special Thanks in the credits and the RF mini-sculpture
£25 - The RF poster
£10 - A post-card with RF's reversed poem
£5 - Our gratitude for your partnering with us

Many thanks for having spent your time to look at our project and even if you are not able to help, we would appreciate your effort  to share this with those that you think might be willing to partner with us.
