Inclusion in Schools Campaign (Amber and Me Film)

Our main aim is to screen this film and discuss some of its themes in as many schools as possible. We hope that it will help promote inclusion and respect.
Amber and Me is a documentary film about twin sisters Amber, who has Down's Syndrome, and Olivia. The film follows their first 4 years of school. The film was due to be released in cinemas on 21 March 2020 which is World Down's Syndrome Day but this had to be postponed because of the Covid-19 pandemic. An important part of the story of Amber and Me is whether Amber can stay in the same class at school with Olivia or whether she should go to a school for children with special needs. It also touches on how children with disabilities are treated in mainstream education.
We plan to screen and discuss the film's themes in as many schools as possible to promote understanding, respect and inclusion. In order to do this we need to raise funds so that we can:
- screen the film in schools via an online portal
- make a resource pack for schools
- provide workshops in schools
We believe that it's vital to promote the message of respect, understanding and inclusion at a time when many schools are prioritising academic results because of school performance charts. Unfortunately, we have heard of a lot of stories of children with disabilities or special needs not being supported at school in the way that they should be supported or the way legislation provides for. The film and resources attached to the film can be an important way to remind and reaffirm to school children (and school staff) of the importance of community, care and respect, although we recognise that it will only be a very small step.
We have the support of several organisations including Mencap, Twin's Trust and DSA (Down's Syndrome Association) to help promote the film and we will look to partner more organisations in the coming months.
Anything that you can donate would be really fantastic, and hopefully, it will allow us to got to one more school to help promote our key messages.
