In 2020 Amanda and I undertook the M2V2020 challenge that you will have followed in support of Naturaleza y Animales. We raised a massive 3500€ with your support and generosity.  We were really proud of what we achieved.

Last year I did a solo event for my own enjoyment - Called the Everest challenge it involved cycling up and down the same hill 27 times for 1 day and 2 nights without sleep in order to reach the metres of Mount Everest (8848m). I achieved it albeit slower than I would have liked, but I think I learnt a lot.

Fast forward onto 2022. Unfortunately due to a cycling accident in 2021 Amanda couldn't commit to the charity event this year, so here I am planning a 24 hour solo Ultra Endurance ride. It's an organised event around the Ricardo Tormo Moto GP circuit in Cheste. Held on the 30-31st July the idea is simple - Ride around the circuit for as long as you can, as fast as possible and completing as may laps as possible in 24 hours. You can stop for as long as you like as often as you like - But for those who know me, that won't be happening! I expect I will have to be dragged off the circuit to eat and rest as I will want to do the very best I can achieve.

I hope I look better than I did half way through my Everest challenge!

2021 has been a really tough year for Naturaleza & Animales ( https://naturalezayanimales.com/ ). It had many of it's main income streams cut off or drastically reduced due to Covid and the restrictions on group meetings and lockdowns. There have been a couple of times where they really did wonder where the next euro was coming from. There's also been a lot more animals abandoned due to owners not having the money to look after them. This has resulted in  a year with record vets bills as many of the abandoned dogs have had big health problems.

None of this is the dogs fault and the volunteers have worked tirelessly to improve the lives of these poor animals.

NyA is a local charity reliant on voluntary donations. It started in 2009 as non-profit organization run by a group of volunteers.

They get involved with the fight against animal abandonment and neglect, cooperating with other animal protection organizations, carrying out awareness work, educating and even reporting cases or neglect when it is necessary. There have been a couple of court cases in the last 18 months for ill treatment and abandonment of dogs which the charity have successfully won.

Their resources are limited either by space, volunteers or financially, yet they still offer help to those who rescue and host an abandoned animal, until a home is found.

They look after rescued dogs predominantly, either in the street (feeding the hungry), fostering those that need special care or looking after them in the dog refuge. They attend local events teaching the public how to look after animals taking dogs with them that they hope will get adopted. They also work with local schools and Associations for disadvantaged children so that they can see the dogs, play with them and gain some insight about the responsibilities of pet ownership.

Based in Pedralba, near Valencia, Spain, they need funds to feed the dogs, vets bills for the terrible state that some dogs enter their care, sterilisation and ongoing health issues such as Leishmaniasis.

This is a selection of the dogs that are have been helped by the charity in the last 12 months - Some have been re-homed with their forever families and some are still looking for a soft comfortable bed, some warmth and love.

Without help from the many volunteers there would be no sanctuary for these animals. The refuge has been built using donations from local companies and now houses a total of 23 dogs. Every single day the dogs are visited by volunteers, come rain or shine, Christmas and holidays. They are fed and watered, their kennels are cleaned and they are able to run around and play in the extensive grass area. The dogs are housed in groups and thanks to ongoing donations the kennels are updated where possible. Most of them now have shelters built out of insulated material where they can sleep in the warm and stay out of the heat in the summer. The kennels are spacious and the very best is made out of the resources that the charity has available.

When the dogs are adopted they are all micro-chipped, sterilised and given a clean bill of health (or medical advice and help should there be an ongoing health issue). Some of the dogs are in such a sorry state when they come to the charity, unfed, mistreated or medically unwell. Thrown out from a home because of treatment required, a hunting dog no longer wanted after the hunting season, puppies found in bags and crates by rubbish bins..... the list is endless and the treatment that most of these dogs face is distressing.

Naturaleza & Animales and their amazing band of volunteers  give these dogs a second chance and a better life. Every single helper is tireless in trying to make life better for the dogs, spending many hours of their own time in supporting the work of the charity. The charity runs a monthly car boot sale to help raise funds, as well as events throughout the year. Amanda and I felt that any money we raised would help pay outstanding vets bills or food bills and give the charity just a little bit of financial breathing space.

I hope that you will see this as a worthwhile cause for donations and support me in the 24 hour challenge. Every penny raised makes such a difference to the charity and their ability to be able to help helpless animals and prevent suffering.
