About VLA DANCE
Started in 2019, VLA DANCE aims to empower artists and audience members alike through thought-provoking and rigorous contemporary dance. In our first year, we had shows at Abigail Ogilvy Gallery, Fountain Street Gallery, and #HellaBlack by Boston Center for the Arts. We were presented by BioMed Realty and by Urbanity Dance in partnership with Boston Poetry Slam. Throughout each show we worked with poets, musicians and visual artists, often approaching an interdisciplinary angle. Now, in our second season, we are focusing on how we can build a sustainable dance company in Boston. Providing performance opportunities for professional dancers, educational opportunities for students, and community engagement.

We have, and will continue to create opportunities for Boston performers and artists to produce distinctive work.

Why Support

Victoria Lynn Awkward, VLA DANCE company director, is deeply invested in creating sustainable long-lasting performing art opportunities within Boston. Opportunities for professional dancers, students, and community members to engage with dance.

We need your support to get the ball rolling! Our company rehearses weekly and any donations given will go towards renting rehearsal space and compensating our dancers. These funds will also help set the groundwork for our future projects and allow us to continue to produce thought provoking and rigorous dance. In addition, we are thankful to have partnered with BioMed Realty, who has pledged to match your donations up to $5,000. In order to create a company structure that is sustainable for years to come, VLA DANCE is implementing a plan that creates a cycle of buildable finances. In addition to shows, our educational and community-based programming not only continues our mission to empower audience and artists members alike through dance but also creates funds to continue running our company.

Funds/Deadline

The funds donated will be distributed towards payment for our artists and administrators, organizing our programming and renting rehearsal space. Deadline: March 6
