This year 2020, our main restoration project in Limerick will be the painting of the church.
When we moved to the Sacred Heart Church in 2012, it had been vacant for six years, without any maintenance. The gutters were falling down and water leaks were an issue in many areas...

Do you remember that the Sacred Heart Church in Limerick was supposed to become a leisure centre after its sale in 2006? Thank God it reopened as a Catholic Church in 2012!

Now that all the leaks are fixed and the church has been heated on a regular basis, the walls are finally much drier. It is now possible to start the first step of the church painting in keeping with the archives.

After Easter this year, a portion of the walls on the right side of the church will be painted, as well as a part of the ceiling. This will give us a glimpse of its future beauty.

We are glad to hire a local company, Hodkinson & Sons Ecclesiastical Decorators. This family company has been in charge of painting Sacred Heart Church since 1888. They did it on an average of every 25 years, except the last time in 1988 when the modern colours were chosen...

It is now time to take this important step of restoring the church walls to their original beauty!
