Operation Warm Heart, Rahway's Homeless Ministry
Donation protected
Zion Lutheran Church, Rahway, NJ has used the Fellowship Hall of the Church since Christmas Day, 2013 to house the homeless. Zion's shelter is primarily operated by volunteers from the church and community. Food, entertainment, and services are all provided by volunteers - about 300 of them! The shelter had been on hiatus because of the pandemic and its wide reaching impact on society, but we opened up our shelter again on February 1, 2023! We are reaching out to you to assist us in funding the only paid staff position at the shelter, our overnight staff, as well as seek financial assistance in paying for supplies for the shelter and necessary renovations to make our space more friendly for our overnight guests. In the past, we provided shelter through the coldest months of the year.
Our shelter is a communal space where our guests are fed a hot meal, dessert, and drinks. Our guests sleep on cots. We shelter from 6pm to 7am the following morning where breakfast is served. All of our meals are provided to our guests by the community.
This service is essential in keeping our most vulnerable people from sleeping on the street!
