Why are we asking for funding - Important update: Mama's House has provided food to every recipient that has picked up in the last week and food deliveries have been done. They have enough supplies up to March 30th and we have basically depleted our food bank. Due to the COVID19 Virus, all of our volunteers have called out and we respect this due to everyone's safety. We provide food to over 1700 families in need here locally. We are expecting the Governor of NC to call for a shelter in place order sometime within the next days. We are working with local grocers to see if we can replenish the food bank next week, but keep in mind we don't have masks or gloves left in order to protect ourselves if we continue distributing food. I am hoping to be able to get some of these soon. I am working on either doing a mass distribution ( in a controlled/safe environment) or figuring out home deliveries, but we have no funding coming in currently. Our thrift store sales is what provides the funding for the food bank and we had to shut down the thrift store portion of Mama's House since last week for everyone's safety. If you want to help Mama's House, then this is the time to donate funding for the food bank. We need as much funding as we can get to continue providing for the next coming weeks for these families. Your donations are tax deductible, if we continue receiving funding we can continue providing food to the families. To minimize social exposure, do not bring food or other donations to Mama's House at this time. If you want to help you can do so from home, on your computer or from your phone  to this go fund me account. If you prefer, mail us a check mail it to Mamas House 1501 N. Main Street, Fuquay-Varina, NC 27526 or mail a gift card for Food Lion, Harris Teeter, Walmart or Aldi's, anything helps. I will stand on the front line along with my family and we will continue helping the families as long as we can, but we can only do this with your help. Please consider donating, any amount helps. Stay safe. I am hoping our lives will all resume to normality within the next coming weeks or months, but we will not abandon our community. Who's with me?

Why was Mama's House founded:
"I will share with you a bit of my life. This is very personal and close to my heart. My name is Janette Rod. As a child I suffered with hunger on a daily basis, to a point that I was eating from the garbage or “dumpster diving” as they call it, starting from the age of 6. Born and raised here in the US. I only state this because we Americans do have a problem with hunger and poverty right here in our homeland and many do not seem to know this. I was raised very poor by a single mother and grandmother, who struggled greatly to make ends meet. As for my toys, I only had a few and they were mostly from the garbage or thrown out items. If I was lucky I would get a damaged or used one for Christmas which wouldn’t last long. When I went skating, I was the only kid skating with only one skate on which had come from the garbage. My clothes were all of different sizes and from different eras as well as my shoes which ranged from a size 5 to 9.5, which I stuffed them with paper to make them fit. When snow days came, I wrapped my feet in newspaper to keep them warm because I had no socks and my boots had holes on the bottom. I slept on the floor many nights and piled clothes on myself because I had no blankets and no heater. Needless to say life was hard. But these were lessons learned and now I would like to give back to our community to help those that are going through tough times as I personally endured. Thanks to the food banks in the past and the missions that gave out those clothes, I had food to eat and clothes to wear while I was growing up. On those evenings, when there was only one can of corn for dinner, I was thankful. Thankful not to have to eat from the garbage for that day. I understand and know what it is like to go to sleep hungry and cold. I know what it is like to be picked on at school for not having matching or having torn clothes or big shoes that don’t fit right. I know how terrible it feels when Thanksgiving comes around and everyone is eating turkey with bountiful dinners and you and your family have nothing to eat. I know what it is like in Christmas to not receive any toys or presents. It hurts and scars deeply as a child. It lives within you as an adult forever. So I decided to found Mama's House and commit to making a difference for those in need, so they don't have to suffer the way that I did....Janette Rod, Founder  -
Note: The picture below was from our  2019 Christmas event, there was over 1600 plus that were helped that day. Mama's House Winter/ Christmas event provides families with  full years worth of clothing supplies, housewares, shoes and much more, completely free for the people in need. The children also met Santa and the Elves and received their Christmas toys.       Thank you for your support.
