Red Hook Lobster DC Employee Relief Fund COVID-19

Donation protected
Our Red Hook Lobster Pound-DC family is struggling during the COVID-19 crisis just like the rest of our friends in the food truck industry. We are humbly reaching out for help.

You may think that food trucks, unlike restaurants, are still able to operate because we don’t have seating areas and that’ s true, at least for now.  The problem is that our business model is based on foot traffic, catering, events and festivals and all of that demand essentially dried up as of mid-February.   What little cash reserves we have this time of year were spent paying our employees through mid-March when we had to temporarily cease operations and furlough our four full-time employees.  As with other small businesses, we made this difficult decision based not only on the recommendations of the CDC and local governments but also for the safety of our employees and you, our loyal customers.

We owe our success and popularity over the past 10 years to a great product but, more importantly, to our four amazing full-time employees who are committed to delivering the best possible customer experience and preparing and serving our world famous lobster rolls.  If you’ve ever been to our trucks, you know their smiling faces and their commitment to customer service.  They are great people and we couldn’t have made it this far without them.  They have been with us since the beginning and stick with us during the slow winter months every year.  They rely on what will now be a much delayed start of the busy season to start earning regular wages so they can pay their bills.

Although we’ve applied to for assistance from all of the available small business relief programs, and have advised our employees on the steps to take to apply for unemployment benefits, these processes take time and replace only a portion of their previously earned income.  We’re therefore asking you, our loyal followers and customers, to help support our lobster crew now. Without any ability to pay them, we’re hoping to raise enough money so that they can survive for 8-10 weeks.  Your support, in whatever amount you can give, will help our crew feed their families, keep the lights on, and pay rent until things get back to normal and we can bring them back to work.

Finally, we’d like to thank the Red Hook Lobster Pound family for all of the support over these many years.  That starts with our employees and ends with you, our loyal customers.  We truly hope we’ll make it through and see you on the other side with a lobster roll in hand!

Sending you all peace, lobster love and gratitude,

Your Friends at Red Hook Lobster Pound-DC
