Supporting refugees and asylum seekers in Lod
Donation protected
The economic situation due to Coronavirus is particularly dire for refugees and asylum seekers in Israel. People with this legal status do not qualify for public benefits, so most people have lost their jobs and will not receive government support for unemployment. Further, emergency food support from municipalities generally does not extend to non-citizens. Many non-profit organizations have mobilized to support communities, but few are reaching Lod. We are asking for support for purchasing essential items (groceries, diapers, and formula).
Since 2017, Yahel has worked in a school called Tesfa (which means "hope" in Tigrinya) to teach English and support enrichment activities for children of the Eritrean refugee and asylum seeker population in the neighborhood. We are deeply concerned for the welfare of our Lod community at this time and will give these funds either directly to the Tesfa school committee or to UNHCR support efforts.
Anything that you are able to give will make a difference. Thank you for your support in helping us to lend a hand to our community in difficult times.
