Shields for COVID Responders

Founded on March 28, 2020 by active duty and retired military explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) technicians, SHIELDS FOR COVID RESPONDERS is a coalition of fabricators whose innovative outlook and passion for public service turned into helping first responders without adequate personal protective equipment (PPE) deal with the COVID-19 crisis.
James Ahn started this endeavor with a simple goal: To provide field-fabricated PPE to first responders across the nation that desperately need protection.
Joined by like-minded volunteers from around the country, our grassroots effort has grown into a coalition of fabricators. Our strength as a team is rooted in our methodology – beyond just making face shields, our team is testing, field validating and continuously improving our design to ensure that our responders have PPE that meets their needs.
Our mission statement today: We can help fill the critical need for effective, reusable, and comfortable face shields by serving as a logistical and distribution hub for fabricators across the nation.

Every dollar will be spent on the raw materials needed to fabricate the shields, including filament and transparency paper, as well as on shipping costs to get the face shields into the hands of medical personnel in hospitals and facilities across the country.

WHERE ARE WE WITH OUR GOAL: As of today (April 24) we have raised almost $12,000 on Facebook and GoFundMe combined. With that money, we have fabricated and shipped over 6300 face shields to over 65 facilities in 26 states and one territory. We will be shipping out additional shields this weekend, pushing the amount of shields shipped out to our Heroes around 7500.
The cost breakdown of your donation: .20-.30 cents per face shield sheets, .40-.50 cents per 3D printed visor, shipping costs, and accessory items (hole punches, replacement parts, ear savers and other sheet material). Rest assured that we put all the money spent right back into the U.S. economy buy responsibly sourcing our raw materials from U.S. companies.
