Summerfield Zoo in Belvidere, IL needs community help to keep the zoo open and the animals cared for. In this time of Covid 19, we are classified as a non-essential business.
Five years ago we were hit by a tornado and going forward was really tough. With community help we rebuilt and are still here. We never thought we would be in a position just five years later to need so much help again. Just as that time seemed impossible, this time of Covid 19 also seems impossible. In order to continue to care for the animals and keep our doors open (when we can open again) we need help with funding. We are currently maxed out in terms of our own ability to find more funds.
Businesses like ours do not qualify for the SBA and bank PPP loans or SBA disaster loans. We have no other options at this time.
The amount of $19,600 covers just one month of operating expenses for the zoo. This covers pelleted feed, produce, zoo meat diets, veterinary costs, fuel, utilities, wages, cleaning supplies, and insurance.
With the support of our community, we survived and thrived through a tornado. We hope to survive and thrive through this unprecedented time. We want to be here for years to come to provide educational opportunities, provide a great place for families to visit and make memories connecting with the animals, and continue to be a safe haven for these amazing animals.
We know that this is such a hard time for everyone right now. That makes us that much more appreciative of the help we have been getting from people and the help we might receive going forward.
